A mandatory stop in Helsinki is none other than the vintage bar Jackie, with influences from the 60’s and 70’s, as well as an incredibly simple but stunning interior design that you’ll be wishing you could see up close right now. It was named after the song “Jackie” by British baritone Scott Walker and once you check the photos and get to know more about this bar, you’ll understand just why we’re so in love with it.

This bar in Helsinki calls out to us with a simple and yet inviting and stunning vintage interior design with a touch of contemporary and modernity that we can’t resist. Mixing past with present works wonders in this bar, and we can’t help but obsess over it.
The Jackie retro style bar’s designer, Joanna Laajisto of Studio Joanna Laajisto, explained: “I was given a soundtrack of 60s and 70s Italian lounge music and 70s French cosmic disco by the owner, Antti Eerikäinen, to understand the ambience he wanted in the space. Best brief I have ever received.”
Using a palette of dark green paint, tan leather upholstery, dark woods and marble details, Laajisto said she wanted to create the “atmosphere of a hotel lobby without the rooms upstairs“. And she did just that, creating an ambiance of comfort and harmony between the furniture pieces that works perfectly with the colors of the walls, the floor and the dimensions of the space.
“The dark green walls and ceiling with long tan leather sofas take you away, maybe to a bar in Milan in the ’70s,” she said. “The Pipistrello table lamp designed by Italian Gae Aulenti in 1965 reinforces the illusion.”
As well as custom-made tables with stripy inlaid marble tops designed by Laajisto, furniture includes the walnut Medici lounge chairs by Konstantin Grcic for Mattiazzi. The color scheme is trendy and modern, making this the perfect bar to visit in Helsinki this Winter.
Located in Helsinki’s Iso Roobertinkatu – a street in the Punavuori area, known as the city’s design district – the bar opened at the end of April 2017. As well as drinks, Jackie serves up North Italian-style pizza slices by renowned chef Antto Melasniemi.
