Presently in its eleventh year, the Restaurant And Bar Design Awards is a globally known competition dedicated to the design of food and beverage spaces. Entries from over 70 countries cover every possible space; from ships to airports, museums to burger vans, from revered Michelin-starred establishing to the fleeting dynamism of pop-ups. Here are some of our favorite modern restaurants in London that are part of this competition!
Old Compton Brasserie is Soho’s newest restaurant with all day dining and an imaginative cocktail list, located in the heart of Soho. The inspiring space recaptures the identity of ‘forgotten Soho’ with bespoke artwork from local street artists, pop paintings of iconic names synonymous with the area such as Twiggy and Kate Moss and urban pieces that celebrate the area’s iconic history. The spacious open-plan dining room has an urban feel with exposed brick walls and industrial accents offset with splashes of colour from stained glass, vibrant tiles and bespoke artwork.
London’s wildest sky-high destination, Savage Garden, brings decadent décor, jaw-dropping views, dramatic cocktails and savage menus to Tower Hill. Inside is brutal yet sultry, urban yet opulent with reflective, scored and savaged surfaces contrasting with plush velvet finishes and marbleised floors. It’s easy to realize just why this is a coveted entry of this design competition.
Enjoy panoramic views of Edinburgh Castle and the Old Town from your restaurant table. For a relaxed dining experience in Edinburgh, a range of exciting lunch and dinner menus are on offer and there’s nowhere better to enjoy a famous Scottish breakfast including porridge oats, Scotch pancakes, haggis and tattie scones than overlooking Edinburgh Castle. The interior design is a mix of purple and blue velvet with stunning brass tables, yellow leather seats and a beautiful patterned floor.
Inspired by modern British and European design Provisioners is stylish, contemporary, and artfully restrained. Based just minutes from London Bridge, on Queen Elizabeth Street, the space echoes elements of a designer’s studio with carefully selected artwork and furnishings. The Coffee Bar serves as a relaxed hang-out, serving coffee and cake during the day, turning to cocktails and nibbles at night.
This restaurant is nothing short of a sugar sweet dream come true. Filled with beautiful pastels that are easily complemented with marble and brass, decorative flowers and art, pastel pink everywhere, El&n Selfridges is a stunning space that is undeniably a project that deserves the recognition of the competition.
